Portfolio Sample & Talk Story
Thank you for visiting our site (updated last 10-Oct-2009).  As a cancer survivor since February 2004, I started photography as a 'hobby' about seven months after my radiation treatment was complete 05-May-2004.  Fortunately I was under the care of Huan Giap, M.D., Ph.D.,  James R. Mason, M.D. and Robert C. Bone, M.D., F.A.C.S. and their staff at Scripps Hospital and facilities @ Torrey Pines.  To all the doctors and nurses, staff, all who helped me, to my family, Mom P, L and Special K, and friends, especially Candace Lienhart, that helped me survive and enjoy life's moments, there are no words it seems. On this page, I can only say thank you and aloha nui loa (very much love.)

Here are a few thoughts, perspectives and topics that helped me during treatment and to survive, in my opinion.  I only lost 20 pounds during treatment, and was expected to lose about twice that amount.  Some of my nurses asked me to give them the recipe for their other patients, which I gladly wrote on the chalk board in my hospital room after surgery.  At diagnosis, I was 190 lbs., six foot male.

May the following help those in need, and use at your own risk.

Shake/smoothie/supplements, etc:  You can figure your own amounts, tastes, etc. as this is general info for you to work with, and always consult your physician(s) before starting any type of alternative diet or treatment.  I am NOT a licensed medical practitioner or the like.

I use variations of the following ingredients everyday, during treatment and to present.  I've now adjusted my diet, using more rice and hemp based protein, and reduced my soy intake.

During treatment, I tried to drink a minimum of three (3) large shakes a day.  I turned down having a stomach tube installed, and used pain meds and downed it.  Today, I average two (2) shakes a day to maintain, along with solid foods, organic as much as possible.

Meal drink:  Water, or soy milk, milk,  juice or other of your choice;
Tofu;
Yogurt;
Flax seed now but didn't use during treatment;
Apples - I use 2 a day;
Berries - I use frozen if fresh not available;
Banana, mango, papaya, or other fruit of your choice;
Whey, hemp, rice protein powder of your choice, both meal replacement & concentrate powders - your choice of brands, etc;
www.nutritionexpress.com for most all my supplements, good pricing;

Other good things to add: honey, nuts, nutmeg, ginger, (suggest fresh, peeled - ginger a good blood cleanser, etc.).

Supplements:  Some of our research resulted in supplements I still take to this day;
- Acidopholus Pearls by Enzymatic Therapy,
- CoQ10,
- Cell Forte w/IP-6 & Inositol by Enzymatic Therapy,
Check out Garden of Life RAW Vitamin Code food created nutrients.

You may want to research and discuss beta-glucan with your doctor also.
Your doctor may not allow you to take some of these foods or supplements, depending upon your individual treatment, care, present medication, etc.  Your responsibility to check with them.

Water:  I would suggest considering efficient water filters, and I've been pleased so far with Alkablue product(s) for faucets (here's one source, there are many)
http://www.betterwayhealth.com/ and for whole house/building filters, http://www.lifesourcewater.com/.   One thought; chlorine is used (among other chemicals) to kill bacteria, etc. in public water.  Besides drinking it this way, heating the chlorine in the water with a hot shower and breathing it (chlorine vapor/'gas') bothered me after being diagnosed - another chemical source to eliminate/mitigate exposure to.

Bodywork; massage, acupuncture, herbs, etc:  I personally believe so-called 'Eastern' medicine and 'Western' medicine can work well together, as do my physicians.  That being said, in my opinion, there are licensed health practitioners, acupuncturists, and there are people who are healers that are licensed health practitioners, acupuncturists, et al.
Here are several healers I know of and recommend people research for their own needs and desires:
